Overview With its headquarters and principal operating base at Shrivenham, the College of Management and Technology is the largest of the three main colleges of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. We provide defence professionals with high quality education, training and development in Acquisition (detailed in this website) and Business skills, Leadership & Management and Military Technology and Nuclear Engineering. Acquisition Skills The successful partnership between Logica and MOD provides a fully managed training service to support the departments drive for continuous development of acquisition skills and behaviours. We provide training covering the full capability lifecycle from requirements generation through procurement and in-service support to disposal, based on the through life approach. We incorporate the latest in communication and delivery techniques enabling students to achieve their full potential. The majority of our courses are open to non-MOD personnel on a fee paying basis. Non-MOD students may attend one of our scheduled courses or it may be more convenient for you if we run an in-house course at a venue of your choice. Our courses cover a wide range of the key functional areas of Programme & Project Management, Commercial Practices, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Category Management, System Safety, Lean Management, Requirements Management and Quality Management, along with other subject areas. The central hub is located in Admiral House, a purpose built training centre located on the outskirts of Bristol close to DE&S Abbey Wood. Training is delivered at each of the satellite centres and also increasingly at customer locations where demand exists. A number of our Acquisition courses are formally accredited by recognised bodies. The System Safety suite of courses have received official recognition from The University of York, and the Commercial Awareness and Practitioner Programme is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply as equivalent to their National Qualifications Ladder Level 3 qualification. In addition, there is the continued offer of the established Association for Project Management (APMP) qualification. Business Skills Our Business courses cover the core and functional competencies and many of the mandatory awareness level courses such as Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity, to provide opportunities for people in defence to learn the skills they need to perform their business tasks effectively. Numerous modules have been established to help to develop all service personnel and civil servants in the MOD to build their careers and enhance their skills and effectiveness. Technology and Nuclear Back to Top Our portfolio contains key interventions ranging in duration from one day workshops to MSc Programmes, aimed at giving students a greater understanding of technology in a military setting and providing training in complex areas to include, but not limited to, Guided Weapons Technologies, Explosives, Military Electronics, Information Management, Systems Engineering and Modelling and Simulation Courses. In addition, we offer a range of courses in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme. Many of these are available in a modular format with accredited modules leading to Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or MSc qualifications. This approach offers maximum flexibility to customers, future employers and prospective students. The Nuclear Department (ND), based in HMS Sultan, Gosport, has, for some fifty years supported the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme in all phases of the reactor lifecycle. It recently received accreditation from the National Skills Academy for Nuclear as a Quality Assured training provider to the civil sector in this specialist area, and offers four of the twenty-one modules available from the Nuclear Technology Education Consortium. Nuclear training for defence contractor organisations is mainly provided on a commercial basis by VT-Flagship. Four of the programmes offered are validated by Cranfield University Postgraduate qualifications. Leadership and Management A broad portfolio of challenging programmes designed to meet the developmental needs of strategic managers and leaders across Defence. Primarily aimed at 1 star level, the programmes range from Leadership and Management, through to diversity training and courses supporting the Defence Acquisition Change Programme, to Senior Responsible Owner intervention at 2 and 3 star level. Bespoke support is available for top team and strategic board development through the Defence Executive Leadership Programme, whilst the international residential and export courses contribute to Defence Diplomacy. The partnership with Ashridge Business School, Logica and Cranfield University together with carefully selected external speakers provides a wide range of specialist programmes. These are designed to meet the demands of managers and strategic leaders in Defence and many of the courses are also of benefit to wider markets and in the public and private sector. Sixth Form and Undergraduate Education Under the Defence Technical Officer Engineer Entry Scheme, with Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College and our six partner universities (Aston, Birmingham, Loughborough, Newcastle, Northumbria and Southampton), we prepare students for further training and careers as engineers or technical officers in the Armed Forces, or as graduate entrants to the MOD Civil Service. A structured programme of development activities enhances student’s technical and Service awareness as well as providing academic and pastoral mentorship. Sixth-form education is typically followed by entry into the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme, which takes students through a sponsored degree in Engineering, Technology, Business or Logistics at one of the partner universities.
